Program Overview

The ever-shifting trends in this Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous environment call for executives in the C-suite and those aspiring to get there to be highly effective communicators. Exceptional leaders communicate with the intention of capturing and resonating with the emotions and needs of the target audiences. To fast track both personal and professional growth, it is imperative that one obtains clarity on their personal communication style and how it impacts on their target audiences. Building effective leadership communication skills has taken center stage in today’s volatile business world. It has been proven that clear articulation of the vision inspires performance and nurtures a healthy working environment of interacting and listening. The more skilled one is in communicating, the greater opportunities for him/ her to foster collaborations, interaction and engagement. This program was developed through consultations with renown communication experts. It covers the critical elements to complement executives in the journey to enhance performance and position them as influential as leader through impactful communication

The program will enable you to;

  • Learn your communication approach and how you can adjust your style to increase your influence.
  • Gain mastery in creating compelling relevant messages as well as displaying impactful leadership presence.
  • Build your capacity to motivate and inspire people.

Program Objectives

The following are the specific learning objectives of the program.

  • Equip the executives with tools and techniques, and skills to build the communication muscle at the different levels – including interpersonal and organizational levels.
  • Enhance the executive’s capabilities to explore how in their roles as leaders, the different communication styles and behavior impact on others.
  • Enhance the learner’s abilities to apply emotional intelligence in interpersonal communication though thought-provoking questioning among other techniques

Program Modules and Key Focus Areas

DAY 1: Your Communication Style

This module sets the foundation to becoming a more effective communicator. In this module, the participants shall consider their personal communication style and preferences. Through practical sessions explore the necessary insights to reflect upon and understand their communication style with the view of building a broad communication skills agenda.

The module will be covered through the following sessions;

  • Awareness of your leadership communication style.
  • Develop your own communication skills agenda – drawing on fresh insights through class videos and other activities

DAY 2: Communication Intelligence

Iconic leaders have one thing in common, they communicate in a way that inspires others and makes people want to work with or follow them. It is commonly said that great leaders are gifted with the ability to adjust their communication approach for different situations. The ability to communicate well requires the skill to quickly be aware of the environment and assess the impact words may have on the parties concerned in a given situation.

This module will be delivered in two sessions as follows;

  • Role of culture in the way you communicate.
  • How communication behaviors change under pressure and how to communicate positively in stressful situations.

DAY 3: Your Message and Presence

This digitally disrupted era demands for a fresh style of leadership – one that can cut through complexity and create collaborative environments where innovation and engagement flourish. Successful leaders do inspire their teams to embrace digital benefits including agility and clarity. Much as there is an increased adoption of technology one must have the skill to position the message to attract the share of mind amongst the target audience.

This module will be delivered in two sessions as follows;

  • The impact of body language and its relationship to leadership presence.
  • Develop compelling and comprehensible messages

Program Faculty

PROF. SAMUEL SEJJAAKA Team Leader MAT ABACUS BUSINESS SCHOOL

Prof. Samuel K. Sejjaaka was a sole practitioner under S. K. Sejjaaka & Co., Certified Public accountants since 1998. This firm (S. K. Sejjaaka & Co.) was first registered in 1988 as Skill Consultants. Since 1988 it has been in the field of consultancy as Auditors, Accountants, Taxation and General Finance consulting till the enactment of the Accountants Statute (1992), which necessitated change of name to S. K. Sejjaaka & Co., Certified Public Accountants. Dr. Sejjaaka is a fully qualified Chartered Certified Accountant. He holds a BCom (accounting major) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Science both of Makerere University, Kampala. He has a Master of Science in Financial Studies of the Strathclyde University (UK) and PhD in Accounting and Finance of Makerere University, Kampala. He is a member and Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA & FCCA) of the United Kingdom and also full member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPA-U).

JOSEPHINE ZHANE Communication Analyst at United Nations and Founder, Engender Girls’ Mentorship

Josephine Omunyidde Zhane is a Communication Analyst, Knowledge Management and Innovations expert currently working with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and has diverse experience in the corporate and development setting. Josephine has previously worked with corporate organizations such as National Insurance Corporation (NIC) as a Corporate Communication Manager and as a Broadcast Journalist for NTV (Africa Broadcasting Corp.) and WBS-TV. Josephine has been recognized as one of Uganda’s Top 40 Under 40 – The New Vision 2016 and 2020. She was also listed among East Africa’s 60 young Managers by The Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) 2012 and was nominated among the young Phenomenal African Women (PAW) Awards 2018, Abuja Nigeria

PAUL MWIRIGI Managing Director CAPITAL ONE GROUP

With fourteen years of agency and corporate experience, Kenyan born Paul Mwirigi Muriungi is one of East Africa’s vastly experienced marketing communications professionals. As a brand custodian for major local, regional and international brands in real estate, retail, telecoms, beverages, financial & insurance services and NGO sectors, Paul has contributed to various game changing campaigns; as a result he has been recognized by clients and peers for creativity and an exceptional work ethic. Paul holds a B.A. in Social Sciences from Makerere University (Uganda’s largest and oldest institution of higher learning), a Certificate in Oil & Gas Studies from Makerere University Business School (the school of business of Makerere University), a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) UK and a Diploma in Public Relations from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) UK.

HENRY RUGAMBA Managing Partner SONGA COMMUNICATIONS

Henry is a seasoned PR professional with over two decades in PR and marketing communications. He horned his skills at British American Tobacco and more recently at Umeme Uganda’s leading Electricity Distribution Company. Once described as ‘the guy you want in the room during a crisis’ Henry was instrumental in building Umeme’s brand and bringing key stakeholders and customers to the table of consensus. A Past Captain of Uganda Golf Cub and a President of the Public Relations Association of Uganda, Henry also devotes his time to non-and not for profit organizations like Hospice Uganda where he serves on the Board of Directors and The Rotary Club of Kampala where he serves as Sargent at Arms.
