Course Overview
CPA
It is now settled law that for one to practice as an accountant, they must be licensed by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU). Join MAT Abacus and study for all the four levels of the CPA (U) Programme. Our CPA (U) program tutors will provide you with the foundation to be come a certified public accountant.

Course Content
The CPA is bench marked to the International Education Standards for Professional Accountants issued by International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB). The taxation and business law course taught in the CPA(U) program are tailored to suit the Ugandan economy. This makes it easier for CPA(U) students to be market ready at qualification. Individuals who hold a foreign accountancy qualification must also undergo a localization process by studying ICPAU Taxation (Paper 11) and Business Law (Paper 3), as the minimum requirement to qualify for membership. Entry Requirements
Degree A degree from a recognized universityOR Certificates/Diplomas
An Accounting Technicians Certificate/Diploma from a recognized professional accountancy body such as ICPAU, KASNEB, NBAA, iCPAR,etc. OR
A diploma pursued in a period of at least two years from a recognized university or Institution of Higher Learning.
A professional certificate offered by another body such as CIPS, CIM etc. OR
At least two principal passes at A-Level with at least 5 credits at O-Level including English Language and Mathematics.
The Certified Public Accountants (CPA) course is offered by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), the regulator of the accountancy profession in Uganda. CPA is spread over 4 levels, with 18 papers. CPA has 3 examination sittings; June, August and December. MAT ABACUS only offers tuition to the major sitting of June and December
Why CPA?
Course content: CPA offers relevant course content. The course is benchmarked to the International Education Standards for Professional Accountants issued by the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB). The taxation and business law taught in CPA are tailored to suit the Ugandan economy. This makes it easier for CPA students to apply principles on the job. Individuals who hold a foreign accountancy qualification must undergo a localization process by studying ICPAU Public Sector Accounting (Paper 14)Taxation (Paper 9) and Business Law (Paper 4), as the minimum to qualify for membership enrolment.
Eligibility for ICPAU Membership
Completion of the CPA course is one of the requirements for ICPAU membership enrolment, the other being attainment of 3 years’ accountancy work experience. ICPAU membership has benefits such as; opportunities for professional growth, opportunities for leadership, regulation and networking, and affiliation to the International Federation of Accountants, among others. Also According to Section 34 of the Accountants Act, all heads of Finance in private and public sector entities are required to be members of ICPAU.
Eligibility to Practise Accountancy
The establishment of an audit firm is the ultimate goal of many accountants. One must have a Practising Certificate in order to start an audit firm and membership of ICPAU is a prerequisite for Practising Certificate application.
Fair costs for training
Examination and study fees for CPA papers are fair. This enables students to complete the course will less hustle while growing their savings for future use.
Accessible Examination Centres
CPA(U) course is currently examinable from six (6) examination centres around Uganda namely Arua, Gulu, Mbale, Fort Portal, Mbarara and Kampala. Students are at liberty to choose examination centres of their preference.
Recommendation for Employment
CPAs are frequently sought after and ICPAU ensures that received employers’ job adverts are regularly forwarded to all ICPAU Members and students depending on the nature of the job.
